The American People are Dreadfully Like Other Peoples

Whatever you can be sure of, be sure of this: The American people are dreadfully like other peoples.

This is a paraphrase of a humbling line by James Russell Lowell: “Console yourself, dear man and brother, whatever you may be sure of, be sure at least of this, that you are dreadfully like other people.”

Imagine the long history of one people divided against another people by race, geography, religion, nationalism, or bigotry. Imagine the long history of one people hating and demeaning another people. The American people are dreadfully like them. The 2024 election made it clear.

We the People had two clearly distinct options. We had plenty of time to know the options. Then roughly 50% chose the vileness and deplorableness of the Republican Party.

It’s not because of Kamala Harris. She did a perfectly adequate job of showing she is a normal politician saying normal political things with normal political spin. On the other side, the vileness and deplorableness of Trump and the GOP has been know, displayed, and documented for at least eight years. Voters had every chance to know the candidates.

It’s because of Trump voters.

It’s because Trump voters are NOT the kind of people who are ready, willing, and able to take a stand against the vile deplorableness of Trump. However, they ARE exactly the kind of people who did, in fact, PUT THEIR VOTE IN WITH the vile deplorableness of Trump. It’s just a fact of the matter.

The blame falls squarely on Trump voters. They willfully chose to put their vote in with the lyingest liar ever to lie like a lying liar. They willfully put their vote in with vileness. They willfully put their vote in with deplorableness. WILLFULLY.

Any excuse by a Trump voter is a confession of their damning failure in competence and personal responsibility: failed responsibility for all they know and fail to know, failed responsibility for all they understand and fail to understand, failed responsibility for all they value and fail to value.

Trump voters made their own choice of vile deplorableness, and it came from within themselves. They again confirmed what has been rightfully suspected since 2016 and affirmed with their support of Trump after January 6:

The American people are dreadfully like other peoples.
